We are very excited to be gearing up for the 2009 Race for The Cure in Little Rock on October 17.  Registration is now open for all to sign up and I know that the 2009 race will continue to build upon the enormous success of last year’s event.

“It’s MY RACE to Win” is this year’s theme.  It implies that each and every woman has a personal responsibility to take care of her own health, yet also work together to help finish the race to eradicate breast cancer.  With that, I pose the question, “What else can everyone do to help win this race?” One of the answers is to get the guys involved with Three Miles of Men (3MOM)!

Three Miles of Men is an opportunity for men to support the Race without actually racing.  We line the race route and cheer the ladies on the whole way.  Registration is done in the same way that individual ladies and teams sign up, and is very easy.  Because of that, I would like to challenge all of the ladies to sign up the men in their lives to be a part of the race in this unique way. All of the registration fees when men sign up are used exactly in the same way as when a woman registers: to ultimately help find a cure for breast cancer!

Not only are the registration fees going towards finding the cure, we have several activities for 3MOM participants as well. First, all participants get entry into the 4th Annual Tailgate Party at Diamond Bear Brewery on Friday night, October 9 from 5-7 pm.  Beer and Larry’s Pizza will be provided for free, as well as prize drawings and music.  It will undoubtedly be the place to be for guys in Little Rock on that Date.  We will also set up shop at Capitol Smokehouse and Grill race morning and serve free breakfast to the first 100 men to arrive.

With all of the good that can come of men registering, and with all of the fun activities involved, is there any reason not to sign up?

The Arkansas Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure was incorporated in 1992. To date the Arkansas Affiliate has held 15 Komen Races for the Cure in downtown Little Rock raising almost $13.5 million.

The monies raised fund grants and educational programs providing support and early detection information to thousands of Arkansas women and their families. About 75 percent of the funds stay in Arkansas, with the remaining 25 percent goes to national research grants.

The Race provides an opportunity to honor breast cancer survivors and to remember those who have lost the battle.
